Mark Sultan, a Canadian who has made a living, or at least part of a living, as a one-man band — and sometimes as half of two-man bands such as The King Khan &amp; BBQ Show and, with Bloodshot Bill, as The Ding Dongs — has a pretty strong opinion of one-man bands.

 According to ZDNet, when Spotify's 6-month introductory period ends next week, those with free accounts will be limited to 10 hours a month of listening and five plays per track.

You still switch to the $5 or $10 a month plans. I'll have to think about that.

David Prince</title><summary type='text'>I just received some terrible news. David Prince, a fellow music writer, sometimes DJ and all-around music fanatic, died last night at his Santa Fe home after a lengthy bout with emphysema. He had been in hospice for some time, I'm not sure how long, so his death wasn't unexpected. But it's still terrible.

Our mutual friend Al Faaet, who informed me of his death, said Prince was 65.

Soul singer Howard Tate died last week at the age of 72 following a bout with cancer.

I loved the man's music.

I'm not sure what it was back in the summer of 1975 that led me to buy that LP by a soul singer I'd never heard before in the bargain bin of some Albuquerque discount store. The singer's cool pompadour probably had something to do with it. And the 79-cent price tag sealed the deal.

This isn't quite as diverse as other Norton compilations like Mad Mike's Monsters or the I Hate CDs series. But he'll, plaster a picture of a stripper on the cover and you probably could pass this off  as a new Las Vegas Grind volume.

R.I.P. Kell Robertson
Kell Robertson heard that long-promised call this morning: "Come on in, it's cool and dark inside."

He died this morning on the property where he lived for about 15 years. One friend said he'd had a peaceful night surrounded by loved ones, including his daughter Penny who flew out from San Francisco to say goodbye.

Butch Crouch</title><summary type='text'>I just learned of the death of Santa Fe musician Butch Crouch, singer, guitarist,songwriter, storyteller.

According to a mutual friend, Alan Akcoff, Butch, who was 72, fell while working on his home south of Santa Fe last week and hit his head on a rock.

I got to see this veteran Belfast punk band last month when I
went to Austin. It was a mighty show.

Led by Clash-inspired singer/guitarist Jake Burns, SLF has been plugging away since 1978 or so. Burns has been the group's constant since the beginning. For the past five years or so, original bassist Ali McMordie has been back with the band.

He first left home as a teen to travel with Big Joe Williams. He was a pal of Little Walter. But he's most famous for his association with Robert Johnson.
